Flight cancellations across San Diego, Los Angeles & Palm Springs’ airports have begun due to the effects of Hurricane Hilary.

Data shows that more than a third of flights in and out of San Diego have been cancelled, following around 40% from Palm Springs thus far.

Los Angeles hasn’t been as affected yet, with only five per cent of flights cancelled so far.

Whilst the hurricane has weakened in condition, mass flooding and heavy rain is still expected to cause significant disruption moving forward.

Yesterday, the FAA announced the issuance of the first ever tropical storm watch for Southern California by the National Weather Service.

As of yesterday, Hurricane Hilary was producing winds of up to 145 miles per hour, and was currently moving northwest at 10mph, in the area of San Diego, Palm Springs & Los Angeles.

The FAA has already put out warnings on social media, which explains that there could be heavy rainfall in the San Diego and Los Angeles area because of Hurricane Hilary.

More notably, this is the first time in over 80 years that a tropical storm will hit the state of California.

Local government bodies have been preparing for the worst case scenarios in case that they do happen, with damage to the affected areas unknown until it passes.

AviationSource will be providing live updates throughout the rest of today on Hurricane Hilary, and how exactly it will affect the areas of San Diego, Palm Springs and Los Angeles.
