UPDATE #1 @ 1039 UK time – Upon the emergency broadcast call onboard OCN72 between Frankfurt and Calgary, the Airbus A330 made a u-turn south and descended to FL260.
UPDATE #2 @ 1043 UK time – Discover Airlines flight OCN72 is currently tracking South at FL250, with an indication that it could divert to Manchester if it remains on this current track.
UPDATE #3 @ 1044 UK time – As per Planespotters, D-AIKB is a 19.7 year old Airbus A330-300 that was first delivered to Lufthansa in March 2004. It was handed over to Eurowings Discover in September 2021, before being handed over to Discover Airlines two years after, due to its rebrand.
UPDATE #4 @ 1049 UK time – No diversion field confirmed currently, but Manchester looking the most likely thus far.
UPDATE #5 @ 1052 UK time – Discover Airlines flight OCN72 to Calgary from Frankfurt is descending further out of FL250. Safe to say that Manchester is the diversion field at this stage, as previous Lufthansa Group carriers have used the airport for such diversions in the past.
UPDATE #6 @ 1058 UK time – 4Y72 is descending through FL130 as the Airbus A330-300 gets closer to Manchester. Still unclear what the nature of the emergency is at this time.
UPDATE #7 @ 1105 UK time – Discover Airlines flight 4Y72 is on the base leg into Manchester Airport, around 30 minutes or so after its 7700 emergency broadcast. Short finals on the way?
UPDATE #8 @ 1108 UK time – 4Y72 is on final approach for the 23s at its diversion field. Standby for further updates.
UPDATE #9 @ 1114 UK time – TOUCHDOWN! Discover Airlines flight 4Y72, originally bound for Calgary from Frankfurt, has appeared to have landed successfully into Manchester Airport following a 7700 emergency broadcast over Scotland.
UPDATE #10 @ 1122 UK time – Confirmation that the cause of the emergency and subsequent diversion into Manchester was due to a Medical Emergency.
