Earlier this week, it was revealed that Vietnam Airlines is making reductions to selected long-haul flights.

The data, provided by AeroRoutes.com, outlines the reductions in question.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

Vietnam Airlines will be making slight reductions to it’s long-haul flights in the second quarter of this year.

Hanoi to Melbourne will be reduced from three weekly to two weekly between May 9-30.

Services to Paris CDG from Hanoi will also be reduced from seven weekly to six weekly between May 13-June 16.

Ho Chi-Minh City to Frankfurt will be reduced from five weekly to four weekly between May 1-31.

Furthermore, Ho Chi Minh City to Paris CDG will be reduced from four weekly to three weekly between May 13-June 3.

Finally, Ho Chi Minh City to San Francisco was reduced from April 20, and will continue until May 15, with the exception of April 29-May 5.

Capacity Amended To Meet Needs of New Flights?

Such capacity amendments by Vietnam Airlines could be down to the plans it has for it’s other routes.

For example, earlier this month, the airline announced that flights to New Delhi would be serviced by it’s Airbus A350 aircraft.

It is understood that Vietnam Airlines will operate these flights to New Delhi with the Airbus A350 in May 2024.

The airline provides around 14 weekly flights at the moment to Delhi & Mumbai from Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City.

It is unclear also whether these capacity amendments will remain beyond June.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that the airline will be adding flights to Munich Airport in October this year too.

Another aspect could be the fact that Vietnam Airlines grounded 12 aircraft which are used for short and medium-haul flights.

It is key to note that this is purely speculative, as the full reason into the reductions could be for different reasons.

Overall…

In conclusion, it will be ultimately interesting to see what the reason for these long-haul flight reductions is.

For Vietnam Airlines, they are still going to enter the Summer season strong with a plethora of international connections.

All eyes will be on whether any further reductions will be made or not.

But for now, let’s see how things perform for the airline moving forward.
