Ryanair has this week revealed the handling of 18.9m passengers in May 2024, a considerable increase from the year previous.
The Irish low-cost carrier is beginning to ramp up in such numbers as the Summer 2024 season intensifies.

The Numbers from Ryanair…
For May 2024, Ryanair handled 18.9m passengers, an 11% increase compared to May 2023, where 17m were handled.
Furthermore, load factors rose one per cent to 95%.
For the rolling 12 months, the airline has handled 186.9m passengers, a nine per cent increase from the same period last year.
However, load factors dropped one per cent to 93% from 94%.
Ryanair operated over 105,000 flights in May 2024, which shows exactly how busy the Irish low-cost carrier has been.
Last Few Weeks Has Been One Focus: Dublin Airport…
Within May, there has been a significant focus on one area for Ryanair. That is Dublin Airport.
They recently applauded the IAA ruling on Dublin Airport’s pricing structure.
The IAA found the airport’s proposed 11% increase for 2024 to be non-compliant with European regulations.
In December 2023, Ryanair raised concerns with the IAA about the proposed price hikes. The carrier argued that they exceeded inflation and lacked genuine environmental incentives.
The airline also criticized Dublin Airport Authority (daa) for failing to introduce effective programs that encourage airlines to adopt quieter, lower-emission aircraft.
On top of this, they have also called on the airport to scrap the existing cap to allow more flights.
The call follows the Winter ’24 slot allocation, which saw Ryanair allocated 1 million fewer seats than what it felt was required.
The uplift is needed to meet the anticipated demand during peak travel periods. This includes the October mid-term break, major sporting events, and the Christmas season.
The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has confirmed that it will limit Winter traffic at Dublin Airport to just 14.4m passengers.

In conclusion, Ryanair’s numbers continue to be strong as the Summer 2024 season intensifies.
However, they believe that they can go much further, particularly out of Dublin Airport.
Looking ahead, all eyes will be on what June’s numbers for the airline will look like, as well as whether Dublin Airport will budge or not.
