Ryanair Celebrates 45m Passengers in Bologna: Adds More Flights

Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair has this week celebrated the handling of 45m passengers in Bologna, Italy by adding more flights for the Summer.

The airline has extensive operations out of the Italian airport, with this set to grow during the busy Summer period.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

To celebrate handling 45 million passengers in Bologna, Ryanair has unveiled it’s Summer 2024 plans for the airport.

Three new routes will be added to the operation, with them being:

  • Olbia
  • Reggio Calabria
  • Tirana

Furthermore, there will be an increase in frequencies on 10 routes also, with the following being highlights of this:

  • Barcelona
  • Ibiza
  • Mykonos
  • Krakow
  • Bucharest
  • Sofia
  • Vienna

A total of 11 aircraft will be based at the airport, which is valued at an investment of $1.1bn.

Furthermore, those 11 aircraft will provide 65 routes in total.

Ryanair expects traffic out of Bologna to be at around 4.2m passengers for the Summer 2024 season.

Mauro Bolla, the airline’s Country Manager for the region had this to say:

“As the No.1 airline in Italy and Bologna, Ryanair is delighted to celebrate 45 million passengers in Bologna since the start of operations.”

“Ryanair is pleased to announce the exciting new operation to Bologna for the S24, with 65 routes including 3 exciting new destinations: Olbia, Reggio and Tirana.”

“This growth is supported by Ryanair’s commitment to Bologna Airport, installing 11 aircraft – representing an investment of $1.1 billion, increasing weekly frequency on more than 10 routes and supporting 3,500 jobs, including 330 well paid for pilots, cabin crew and engineers.”

“By reaching this important milestone, Ryanair has helped passengers to/from Italy to reach their loved ones, meet business partners, go on holiday and study abroad.”

“Ryanair continues to deliver more traffic, more jobs and offer lower fares than any other airline in Bologna and Italy.

In addition to the upgraded Bologna flights, Ryanair has been outlining growth plans over the last couple of weeks.

Firstly, the airline added four new routes to it’s Krakow operations, of which a total of 83 routes will be served.

After that, expansion was applied to Pisa, Palma de Mallorca, Menorca & Ibiza, in a big boost for Spain.

Following that, flights out of Katowice & Poznan were also boosted, but Warsaw Modlin reduced.

Within Italy also, Puglia also had two new flights added by Ryanair in Brindisi & eight in Bari.

Finally, Ryanair then announced it’s largest Summer schedule out of Zaragoza, adding a new route to Fez as well.

In conclusion, the expansion of flights out of Bologna by Ryanair is part of a big list of announcements made by the airline over the last two to three weeks.

Summer 2024 preparations continue for the airline, as they get all of their chickens in order before boosting passenger traffic.

It remains clear that this upcoming period is going to be a busy one or maybe the busiest yet.

Therefore, the airline is performing for the best case scenario in all of it’s bases across Europe.
