Former Airbus A380 Chief Engineer joins Global Airlines

Following the maiden flight of 9H-GLOBL from the Mojave Air and Space Port, Global Airlines marks another milestone; welcoming another industry heavyweight onboard.

The UK start-up long-haul airline is welcoming former Airbus A380 Chief Engineer John Roberts to its Advisory Board.

With a career spanning four decades and a wealth of experience garnered primarily at Airbus, Roberts brings relevant insight and operational acumen to the table.

A Storied Career in Aviation

An alumnus of Brunel University where he graduated in Mechanical Engineering, John Roberts is a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical society and a chartered engineer.

Roberts’ journey in aviation commenced with Dowty Fuel Systems, where he honed his skills in aircraft systems and engineering.

His subsequent tenure at Messier-Dowty further solidified his expertise, laying the groundwork for his pivotal role at Airbus.

Pioneering A380 Operations

At Airbus, Roberts emerged as a trailblazer in the operational integration of the A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft.

As a key liaison between Airbus and airlines, he navigated the complexities of the A380’s early service life, ensuring a seamless transition into commercial operation.

Reflecting on his appointment, Roberts extolled the A380 as a paragon of aviation excellence, remarking on its distinctive presence in the skies.

With over two decades of service ahead, he emphasizes the aircraft’s longevity and technological sophistication.

The A380 is the most distinctive aircraft in the sky, and I’m proud to have played a small part in its success since it entered into commercial operation in 2005,” says John Roberts.

“It is still a modern, latest technology aircraft, with two more decades of full-time usage in front of it.”

“It is great to be joining the project following the landmark first flight and I share Global’s belief in the aircrafts ongoing potential. I look forward to working with the team, and the wider A380 community, as we plan for the future.”
