Hi Fly has performed the first check flight of Global Airlines Airbus A380-841, registered 9H-GLOBL, at Mojave Air and Space Port, California, United States this week.

According to the Airbus widebody specialist operator, the first sortie revealed an excellent aircraft, and more flights will follow.

“The A380 is a very complex machine, and the wake-up of the giant is a step-by-step process,” explained Hi Fly’s Commander Carlos Mirpuri after this week’s check flight.

The aircraft performed beautifully; its flight characteristics are second to no other airliner, and I was delighted to take her up for her first maintenance check flight,” said Hi Fly’s Commander Carlos Mirpuri.

A380 9H-GLOBL is the first registered aircraft for the new UK start-up long-haul carrier Global Airlines.

Global Airlines & Hi Fly Agreement

Last year, Global Airlines and Hi Fly signed an agreement to work together on the development and maintenance of the four A380 aircraft the new airline has agreed to acquire.

Hi Fly, based in Lisbon, has significant A380 technical and operating experience. Under the service agreement, Global Airlines thus have the benefit of Hi Fly’s expertise to accelerate the Entry into Service (EIS) programme for the airline’s new fleet.

Hi Fly, who were the first to operate the A380 in the secondary market, will use their extensive experience of the aircraft, to work with Global on not only preparing it for service, but on helping the new UK carrier realise its ambition to provide customers with the best way to fly on commercial services, as it prepares for operations.

Speaking on the brokering of the service agreement in September 2023, James Asquith, CEO and Founder of Global Airlines said:

“The great news for us is that the team at Hi Fly know the A380 inside-out and will be invaluable in helping us with their industry knowledge around the maintenance and technical acceptance required for our first aircraft – all crucial steps before work begins on introducing our new interiors and other vital elements of the Global service and passenger proposition.”

Hi Fly operated the only A380 ever to be deployed on the ACMI business, and its technical expertise and operational excellence was the reason behind Global Airlines choosing its services for the reactivation of pre-owned A380s that were parked in Mojave Desert Airport, preserved.
