Avelo Airlines is expanding its operations by establishing a new base in the Bay Area at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS).

This move comes after nearly three years of successfully serving the Bay Area and will see the new base opening in May.

Avelo’s Vision for STS

Originally commencing flight services in the Bay Area in April 2021, the new base at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) comes 3 years after operations commencement.

Operating a fleet of 16 Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft, Avelo currently supports six bases at:

Los Angeles’ Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), Orlando International Airport (MCO), the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region’s Wilmington Airport (ILG), Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) and Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS).

According to Andrew Levy, the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Avelo Airlines, STS embodies the qualities the airline values most in an airport – friendly, fast, and easy.

As the inaugural destination of Avelo’s first flight in 2021, the Bay Area holds a special place in the airline’s history.

With over 300,000 customers having experienced Avelo’s services at STS, the decision to establish a base at the airport was a natural progression.

Initial Base Layout

Avelo will initially station two Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft at STS, with plans to employ up to 50 crew members, including pilots, flight attendants, and aviation maintenance technicians, upon the base’s opening in May.

This expansion not only enhances Avelo’s operational capacity but also brings job opportunities and economic growth to the region.

Expanded Connectivity

With the establishment of its base at STS, Avelo aims to enhance connectivity by offering nonstop flights to four destinations:

  • Bend / Redmond, OR (RDM)
  • Las Vegas, NV (LAS)
  • Los Angeles / Burbank, CA (BUR)
  • Palm Springs, CA (PSP)

Flight Schedule

Travelers can expect convenient flight options to these destinations:

  • RDM: Twice weekly flights (Mondays and Fridays)
  • LAS: Up to four days per week (Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays)
  • BUR: Daily service except Wednesdays
  • PSP: Up to four days per week (Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays)

Community Impact

Jon Stout, Sonoma County Airport Manager, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Avelo Airlines and highlighted the positive impact the base will have on the community. The increased connections and operations are expected to bring numerous benefits to the region, further solidifying STS as a vital transportation hub.

Super Bowl LVIII Extra Flights

Additionally, Avelo has added special roundtrip flights between STS and LAS for Super Bowl LVIII, which is being hosted in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 11.

The airline is adding one roundtrip flight on Friday, February 9 and one roundtrip flight on Monday, February 12 that were not previously in Avelo’s schedule.

“These additional flights will make it easy and convenient for SF 49ers fans to watch the game or simply enjoy all the festivities Vegas has in store for Super Bowl weekend,” Levy added. “We look forward to joining our fellow Bay Area fans in cheering on the Niners in Super Bowl LVIII.”
