LONDON – UK holiday carrier Jet2 celebrated 20 years of operations in Spain this week with senior tourist delegates.

Throughout its 20-year history, Jet2 has contributed more than 3.5bn EUR in terms of GDP to the Spanish economy and remains committed to the tourist sector in the country by saying: “Here’s to the next 20 years and beyond”.

The first Jet2 flight to Spain was on February 12, 2003, when the Leeds-Malaga service opened up.

By the end of 2003, the airline operated four destinations within Spain, whereas nowadays, it is a comprehensive set of 13 destinations.

By 2007, the carrier launched Jet2holidays into the region, which further enhanced the tourist options available to UK travelers.

Ahead of the Summer 2023 season, two brand new routes will be launched in Spain, the Glasgow-Girona and Bristol-Malaga rotations.

In total, Jet2 will have 114 routes on sale between the UK and Spain, representing a massive route network for customers to choose from.

Heapy: Jet2 Has A Success Story in Spain…

At the celebration event, Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy spoke about the growth of Jet2 in Spain as well as what the airline brands “the incredible success of Jet2Holidays in Spain”.

Heapy also mentioned that ahead of the Summer 2023 season, there will be over 400 “uniformed customer helpers in Spain” in order to cope with the expected high demand this year.

Through the partnerships that the airline has with hoteliers and tourism organizations, Jet2 does appear to be in a well-secured position for success in Spain.

That will be important, especially when it comes to competing against the likes of TUI, who also have a significant presence in Spain.

Expanding on Successes from 2022…

Jet2 has been working hard to expand on the successes it experienced over the course of 2022.

Back in August, the airline celebrated its 100 millionth passenger ever handled in the history of its existence.

Before COVID-19 hit the travel sector, the airline was on a continued upward trajectory, from handling 1.2 million passengers in 2004 to 14.4 million per year by 2019.

With the Summer 2023 season expected to be even busier than the chaos of Summer 2022, Jet2 does have a good chance of exceeding expectations.

Either way, it’s all to play for, as consumers continue to book holidays despite an ongoing cost of living crisis in the UK.

Overall…

It remains clear that Jet2 has a lot to celebrate, despite the hard times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

All eyes will be on the airline to see how much further it can take its Spanish operations going into the future, as it is already quite extensive.

The unique position that Jet2 is in will offer nothing but an upwards trajectory as we slowly progress through this decade.

With the world moving away from the global pandemic, airlines like Jet2 can only stand to benefit from pent-up demand. And that is so important for long-term success.
