In the last few moments, a Sun Country Airlines Boeing 737 operating a flight between Minneapolis and St. Petersburg has declared an emergency.

Information is limited surrounding the emergency, but here is what we know so far.

Sun Country Airlines flight SY1913 is a routine scheduled flight between Minneapolis and St. Petersburg.

The aircraft involved in the incident is registered as N814SY.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N814SY is a 22.5 year old Boeing 737-800 that started out life with Virgin Blue in November 2001.

Furthermore, by March 2011, the aircraft was handed over to Sun Country Airlines.

Of the 737-800 variant, the airline has 56 in the fleet.

Furthermore, of that 56, all but five are in active service, hosting an average fleet age of 16.9 years.

Sun Country Airlines flight SY1913 departed Minneapolis at 0851 local time this morning and proceeded to St. Petersburg.

Upon reaching the Columbus area, the aircraft declared an emergency and made a u-turn.

From there, the aircraft chose to divert to Birmingham, Alabama.

At this stage, it is unclear what the reason for the emergency is onboard Sun Country Airlines flight SY1913 Minneapolis-St. Petersburg.

Furthermore, as soon as we have more information pertinent to this emergency, then we will update you accordingly.

Whatever the cause, it is serious enough to cause a diversion, rather than continue to it’s destination.
