This week it has been revealed by AppleInsider that an Apple AirTag helped a family track down their stolen luggage.

This article will cover the details surrounding the stolen luggage being tracked down using an Apple AirTag in time for Christmas.

Apple AirTag Recovers Stolen Luggage

A family that was travelling through Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in North Carolina, U.S. for a festive holiday had their luggage stolen from the airports’ baggage claim.

The Gavino family discovered upon arrival at Charlotte Douglas that one of their suitcases was missing. Luckily Catherine Gavino placed an Apple AirTag in their suitcases and was able to track the case down.

Catherine said, “I watched a YouTube video Friday morning and threw it in the luggage. It was to help find luggage if it was lost, but I never thought it’d get stolen.”

“Throughout the entire trip, it kept showing up around Gastonia and South Carolina. I told my dad who was with me, ‘Look, it’s only 20 minutes, let’s swing by.”

Despite the Police warning the family to track down suspects without help, they turned up at the address and found the suitcase nearly empty. They believe that the clothes will have been sold for money.

“Police believe they may have sold the clothes for money, who knows. These are my parents, coming to the mountains for a North Carolina view, so for this to happen made me sad, which was all the more reason to go after them…I wouldn’t have found them without this AirTag.”
