MD Helicopters announced that it has begun its production of the first three of the 12 Cayuse Warrior Plus Scout/Attack helicopters chosen by Nigerian officials.

The Nigerians are proud to have bought such helicopters for counter-insurgency attacks, which have been hampering the stability of Nigeria for decades.

The country hopes that the new MD helicopter will resolve conflict in the country. MD expects to deliver its state-of-the-art helicopter in two years.

MD Helicopters President and CEO Brad Pedersen proudly comments on the production of its helicopter to Nigeria: “It is exciting to see the Nigerian Army aircraft move along our production line,”

The CEO also furthers the supply chain status:  “We have also significantly increased our hiring and ramped up our spare parts supply chain to provide best-in-class customer support for not only these aircraft but the entire worldwide fleet.”

“Nigeria’s selection of MD Helicopters is a wonderful win for American-made aircraft and the people of the great state of Arizona.”

The ‘Little Loach’

The Little Loach was the aircraft’s previous nickname during the Cold War. Highly capable and deadly, it is now known as the Cayuse Warrior, and is one of the most successful and capable light-attack helicopters in the market.

Its small, and agile design earns the other nickname of ‘the Ferrari of the skies’ due to its high performance and speed primarily. With more than 6 decades of real combat missions, it is indeed a proven machine, with effectiveness and high reliability.

With the aircraft demonstrating mission readiness, it is one of the most unrivalled helicopters in the market in terms of monetary value, unparalleled power, safety, speed, agility, and confined area capabilities.

These are well sought after by the Nigerian government in combating insurgencies and movements in Nigeria. Moreover, the MD 500 series, on which the Cayuse Warrior is based, has one of the lowest direct operating costs in its aircraft category.

The helicopter’s Plus version features mission enhancements which will also include the precision weapons system, avionics improvements, and also armour protection for its occupants. This increases the confidence of the helicopter for Nigeria.

The Best Option

The Nigerian government will not disappoint with its purchase. The MD helicopters are built to last and are proven machines, loaded with high capabilities to perform every mission demanded by its pilots.

Its economical operating cost makes it a viable proposition for the government to make such a purchase. With its air frame being relatively small, this makes the aircraft very manoeuvrable and less prone to becoming a target while performing crucial missions.
