United Flight Suffers Gear Failure on Landing in Houston

In the last 30 minutes, it appears that a United Airlines flight has suffered a gear failure upon landing into Houston caused by veering off the runway.

A photo has been released of UA2477, following it’s arrival in the last few moments.

UA2477 – Memphis to Houston…

United Airlines flight UA2477 is a routine scheduled flight between Memphis and Houston.

The aircraft involved in the incident is N27290.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N27290 is a 4.4 year old Boeing 737 MAX 8 that was only delivered to the airline back in June 2023.

Of the MAX 8 variant, United Airlines has 85 of them in the fleet, of which all of them are in active service.

The average age of the MAX 8s in the fleet is 2.0 years.

United Airlines flight UA2477 departed Memphis at 0627 local time this morning and landed into Houston at 0757 local time.

Furthermore, it looks like whatever has happened has caused the gear to collapse.

At the moment, information regarding what happened is still limited.

  • United Airlines flight UA2477 suffered an event on the runway at Houston today.

Passengers have been evacuated safely from the United Airlines flight. Unclear whether any injuries have been reported thus far.

FAA Releases Statement on the Incident

The FAA has said the following on the incident:

“After landing at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, United Airlines Flight 2477 rolled onto the grass when exiting onto the taxiway around 8 a.m. local time on Friday, March 8. The passengers deplaned on the taxiway and were bused to the terminal. The Boeing 737 departed from Memphis International Airport. Please contact the airline for additional information. The FAA will investigate.”

Fourth United Incident This Week

With today’s event in Houston, this marks the fourth incident United Airlines has had this week.

They have had a wheel fall off on a Boeing 777 after departure from San Francisco, as well as a 757 suffering an engine failure on descent into SFO as well.

It is also the second incident to occur within Houston this week as well, with a Boeing 737-900 from United suffering an engine stall.

United Airlines Provides Statement on UA2477

In the last few moments, United Airlines has sent the following statement to AviationSource:

“After landing, UA2477 exited the taxiway into a grassy area. Customers deplaned using air stairs and are being bused to the terminal. No passenger or crew injuries have been reported. Our teams will move the aircraft from the taxiway as soon as we are able to do so.”

United Airlines also noted that there were 160 passengers and 6 crew onboard the Boeing 737 MAX 8.
