United Airlines flight UA59 is a routine scheduled flight between Frankfurt and San Francisco.

The aircraft involved in the incident was operated by N2243U.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N2243U is a 6.8 year old Boeing 777-300ER that was delivered to the airline in June 2017.

Of the Boeing 777-300ER variant, United Airlines has 22 of them in the fleet, of which all are in active service.

UA59 departed Frankfurt at 1343 local time on March 29 and initially climbed out towards San Francisco.

Upon reaching the exit point of Amsterdam’s airspace, the aircraft started performing a series of holds.

Eventually, a decision was made to return back to Frankfurt, where it landed safely after around two hours in the air.

As per The Aviation Herald, the cause for the return to San Francisco was due to a toilet overflowing.

It is understood that the “soup” from the toilet went into the cabin, producing an odor to passengers.

Furthermore, following that incident, the aircraft was grounded for two days in Frankfurt.

Then, just today, UA59, registered by N2243U continued onwards to SFO from FRA.

As soon as we have more information pertinent to this, then we will update the article accordingly.
