A tire on an Alaska Airlines flight blew during landing into Portland on a routine scheduled flight from San Jose Cabo.

Alaska Airlines flight AS1423 was a routine scheduled flight between San Jose del Cabo and Portland, Oregon, with the affected rotation being operated by N481AS.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N481AS is a 8.3 year old Boeing 737-900ER aircraft that was first delivered to the carrier back in August 2015.

Of the 737-900 variant, the airline has 79 of them, of which 74 are in active service and five are currently parked, with an average fleet age of 7.8 years.

Alaska Airlines flight AS1423 departed San Jose del Cabo at 1127 local time on November 18 and proceeded northbound to Portland.

On arrival into it’s destination, it is understood that the left tire blew on the aircraft, as per data from The Aviation Herald.

Once vacated, the aircraft taxied to the apron, where the damage was observed. It was reported also that the left flap was damaged as a result of the tire blowing up on landing into Portland.

The aircraft was understood to have been grounded for nearly a day, before the Alaska Airlines-owned jet was allowed back into commercial service.

N481AS then operated a flight to Oklahoma City, and has not yet operated a flight since at the time of writing (20/11/23 @ 1700 UK time).

It is unclear how hard the landing was into Portland, or whether it just blew of it’s own volition.
