Porter Airlines Dash 8 Overruns Runway at Ontario Airport

On April 16, a Porter Airlines Dash 8 overran the runway at Sault Ste. Marie Airport in Ontario, Canada.

The affected flight was Porter Airlines Flight PD2691 between Toronto and Sault Ste Marie, having departed the Ontario-based airport at 21:13 local time.

The jet arrived in Sault Ste Marie at 2221 local time and subsequently overran the runway on arrival.

C-GLQB was the Bombardier Dash 8 that operated the flight across Ontario, having been delivered to Porter Airlines back in August 2006.

This gives the aircraft age of 16.9 years at the time of writing, as per data from Planespotters.net.

As you can see from the photos above, the Dash 8 of Porter Airlines had majorly exceeded the runway at the Ontario-based airport.

At this stage, it is unclear when the aircraft will be deemed airworthy again, as well as when it will be recovered from the grassy field.

It is also unclear what the cause of the excursion was, which will no doubt be investigated by the relevant parties in due course.

Porter Airlines haven’t commented on the incident at the time of writing, with it being unclear when or if they will provide a comment.
