Passenger dies after IndiGo flight makes emergency diversion to Karachi

An IndiGo flight operating between Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Hyderabad made an emergency diversion to Karachi, Pakistan after a passenger experienced a medical problem inflight on Wednesday.

IndiGo flight 6E68, an Airbus A321 operating the scheduled service between Jeddah International Airport (JED) and Hyderabad (HYD) made the decision to initiate a diversion to Karachi Jinnah International Airport (KHI) in Pakistan after a passenger experienced a medical issue inflight.

Despite the best efforts of the operating crew, the passenger did not survive and was subsequently declared dead on arrival.

IndiGo statement


“There was a medical emergency on board IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad. The captain diverted the flight to Karachi, where the passenger was attended to by a doctor on arrival,” IndiGo said in a subsequent statement.

“Unfortunately, the passenger did not survive and was declared dead on arrival,” the airline statement went on to confirm.

The scheduled international service was conducted by Airbus A321-271NX, registered VT-IUM; a 3-year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the Indian carrier IndiGo.

After completing formalities in Pakistan following the emergency diversion, the flight subsequently departed from Karachi landed at the destination of Hyderabad at 0908 IST.

Summary


IndiGo has recently experienced a similar unfortunate incident earlier this year before this emergency diversion into Karachi, when a flight crew member collapsed and died prior to boarding a flight he was scheduled to command.

In August, IndiGo crew member Captain Manoj Subramanyam collapsed at the Nagpur Airport boarding gate, just prior to boarding a fight which he was to take to Pune Airport.
