LATAM Brasil A320 Engine Failure on Approach Brasilia

A LATAM Airlines Brasil Airbus A320 suffered an engine failure whilst on approach to Brasília, Brazil on 13 May 2024.

LATAM Brasil flight LA3008 was inbound from São Paulo (CGH) and conducting an approach into the destination airport when flight crew reported the failure of an engine.

The aircraft subsequently continued its approach and landed on RWY11R Brasília International Airport(BSB) without incident.

Following the landing the aircraft was able to vacate the active runway. From there, it was then towed to the apron hardstanding area.

Flight data shows that flight LA3008 made an on-time departure out of São Paulo Congonhas Airport (CGH) at 1140 local time on 12 May.

The flight then proceeded normally, setting course and climbing to cruising level FL380 (38,000 feet) for the regional service.

Subsequent letdown and approach procedures were all conducted normally, and flight crew continued the approach following the engine shutdown.

A formal emergency was not declared in the subsequent approach and landing were conducted under normal operating procedures.

The pilot in command reportedly informed passengers of the engine problem at the time, and no undue concerns arose.

Airbus A320-200 PR-MYI

Aircraft conducting the LA3008 regional service was an Airbus A320-200, registered PR-MYI. This is a 13.7-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier LATAM Airlines Brasil.

It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery in September 2010.

LATAM Airlines Brasil, formerly TAM Linhas Aéreas, is the Brazilian brand of LATAM Airlines Group. It operates international and domestic flights from hubs in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Brasília.
