A ground staff member working on a TransNusa Airbus A320 in Indonesia experienced a bad fall on 15 May 2024.

The incident, which took place at an Indonesian airport (believed to be Jakarta), involved the staff member exiting the aircraft while the air stairs were being removed.

TransNusa Ground Incident

Video footage captured the moment, and subsequently surfaced on social media, with many expressing concern.

Reports indicate that the staff member did not sustain serious injuries, but subsequently received medical attention.

This incident has highlighted the importance of proper communication and adherence to safety procedures during aircraft turnaround. This is the time between when a plane disembarks passengers and prepares for its next flight.

General ground handling dictates that the moveable air stairs remain secure and in place while the aircraft cabin door remains open.

In the incident, the moveable air stairs were separated from the aircraft before the closure of the Door 1 Left cabin door.

The aircraft in questions was an A320-200, registered PK-TLB. This is a 17.9 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier TransNusa. It has been in service with the airline since August 2022.

Prior to its current service with the Indonesian operator, it saw operational service with China’s Chengdu Airlines, and Germany’s Air Berlin.

It was initially delivered to Air Berlin in July 2006.
