A Delta Air Lines scheduled flight from London to New York has made a return to Heathrow shortly after take-off earlier this afternoon.

Delta Air Lines flight DL2, a Boeing 767 operating the long haul service from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) made a return to the London airport not long after takeoff.

Flight data shows that flight DL2 made a late departure from LHR this afternoon after more than three hours delay. The flight originally scheduled for departure at 11:15 BST this morning made its departure at 14:47 BST this afternoon.
The flight was on climb below 10,000 feet in the London area under radar vectoring, before executing a holding procedure to the north of LHR at 9,000 feet.
Precautionary return London LHR
The Boeing 767 subsequently made a return; landing just 45 minutes after departure. It is unclear whether the protracted delay had any bearing on the early return to LHR.
The flight did not declare a formal emergency during this afternoon’s departure and subsequent early return procedure.
The aircraft conducting this afternoon’s transatlantic long haul service was a Boeing 767-400ER registered N841MN; a 22-year old widebody extended range aircraft belonging to the US carrier Delta Air Lines.
