Earlier this week, a British Airways flight between London Heathrow and Milan Linate suffered an engine failure on approach to the Italian airport.
It is understood issues were identified with the engine itself, which prompted a shutdown from the crew.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
BA568 – London Heathrow to Milan Linate…
BA568 is a routine scheduled flight between London Heathrow and Milan Linate.
The aircraft involved in the British Airways A320 engine failure is registered as G-EUYD.
As per data from Planespotters.net, G-EUYD is a 15.4 year old Airbus A320 that was delivered to the airline in December 2008.
Of the A320ceo variant, the UK carrier has 65 of them in the fleet, of which all but two are in active service.
Furthermore, the average fleet age for the variant at the airline stands at 17.6 years.
British Airways flight BA568, which suffered the engine failure, departed London Heathrow at 1630 local time on April 4.
Reporting from The Aviation Herald states that the issue happened during the approach phase into Milan Linate.
As is observed from the RadarBox data (See above), the crew entered a series of holds to try and sort the problem out.
Furthermore, with the problem not solveable, the engines were turned off by the crew on the flight.
British Airways flight BA568 from London Heathrow landed safely into Milan Linate without further incident.
G-EUYD Still Grounded…
Data from RadarBox shows that the British Airways aircraft from London Heathrow has been grounded in Milan Linate since the engine failure incident.
Such data shows that it will return to LHR tomorrow at some point, with the aircraft expected to operate the following on April 8:
- BA458 to Madrid
- BA908 to Frankfurt
- BA738 to Geneva
Furthermore, all eyes will be on whether the aircraft will be able to operate these flights from Monday.
But for now, the aircraft is grounded until otherwise stated.
