It has emerged that an American Airlines Boeing 777 operating AA717 from Munich to Charlotte will be diverting to Montreal, with the reason unknown.
American Airlines flight AA717 is being operated by N758AN, one of the airline’s Boeing 777-223ER aircraft.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N758AN is a 22.0 year old aircraft, which was first delivered to the airline back in November 2001.
Of the 777-200 variant, the airline currently has 47 of them, of which 43 are in active service, and the other four are parked.
Across the fleet of those jets, there is an average age of 22.9 years.
It is unclear currently why American Airlines flight AA717 between Munich and Charlotte is diverting to Montreal, but such information has thus far been confirmed across most flight tracking applications.
The American Airlines website does note that the aircraft is diverting to Montreal, but does not state a reason into why this is happening.
However, AA717 is expected to depart the Canadian airport at 1440 local time, and continue on to Charlotte.
AA717 has entered into Canadian airspace now, with the expectation that such a diversion will be completed in the next few hours.
AviationSource will approach the airline for a comment regarding this diversion. As soon as we acquire that information, we will update the piece accordingly.
