Piper’s New M700 Fury Gains its FAA Type Certification

Piper Aircraft, Inc. has confirmed certification of its new flagship aircraft, the Piper M700 Fury, by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, achieved on February 29, 2024.

Piper recently unveiled its latest high performance single, the M700 Fury. This cabin-class turboprop aircraft signifies the latest leap in Piper’s 87+ year history.

The fastest single in the manufacturer’s stable, it boasts exceptional performance and advanced technology.

FAA Type Certification

The announcement of the type certification of the Piper M700 Fury by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on February 29, 2024, marks a significant milestone for Piper Aircraft.

Achieved shortly after the aircraft’s unveiling on February 6, 2024, this certification now gives the model the green light.

M700 Fury Performance Specs

The Piper M700 Fury sets new benchmarks in performance within its class.

Equipped with Pratt & Whitney’s PT6A-52 engine, it generates 700 shaft horsepower. Cabin fitout includes Garmin’s G3000 cockpit, including Garmin’s Emergency Autoland, ensuring unparalleled safety and efficiency.

  • Take-off Performance: With a class-leading take-off distance over a 50 ft. obstacle at sea level, standard day maximum gross take-off weight (MGTOW) of 1,994 ft., the M700 Fury outperforms its predecessor, the M600/SLS, by 24 percent.
  • Initial Climb: After MGTOW departure, the M700 Fury achieves a remarkable climb rate of 2,048 feet per minute, surpassing the M600/SLS by 32 percent.
  • Climb to Altitude: The M700 Fury swiftly ascends to FL250 in just 13.9 minutes, covering a shorter distance and consuming significantly less fuel compared to its counterparts.
  • Cruise: With a maximum cruise speed of 301 knots, the M700 Fury ensures swift and comfortable travel.
  • Landing Performance: Demonstrating exceptional landing capabilities, the M700 Fury reduces landing distances and ground roll significantly, ensuring safe and efficient landings.

John Calcagno, president & CEO of Piper Aircraft, expressed his excitement regarding the FAA certification of the M700 Fury.

He further hinted at future developments within the M-Class product line, saying: “The Fury is just the first step in a new generation of our M-Class product line, so watch this space, as Piper’s M-Class will be expanding both above and below what we currently offer today.”

Future Plans for Piper’s M-Class Product Line

The certification of the M700 Fury appears just the beginning of Piper’s journey towards enhancing its M-Class offerings.

With plans to expand both above and below the current product range, Piper aims to redefine performance in the single engine turboprop line.

Upcoming International Validations

While the FAA certification sets the stage for the new M-series aircraft’s success, Piper Aircraft is now working on international validations for other regions.

This presently includes Canada, Europe, the UK, and Brazil. Customer deliveries in these regions are expected to commence before the end of the year.

International validations for Canada (TCCA), Europe (EASA), the UK (CAA) and Brazil (ANAC) are on track to be completed in the second half of 2024.
