Chinese eVTOL development company EHang has unveiled a cutting-edge center for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) in Spain.

This new facility, located at the Lleida-Alguaire International Airport in Catalonia, is set to revolutionize the landscape of air travel and air taxi operations.

EHang, a global leader in UAM, has established this avant-garde center, which is the first of its kind in Europe. The center’s primary mission is to pave the way for eVTOLs, making them an integral part of our daily lives.

These unmanned electric aircraft are set to transform the way we perceive air travel, offering an eco-friendly, autonomous, and safe mode of transportation.

The EH216-S eVTOL

At the heart of this initiative is EHang’s EH216-S eVTOL aircraft, the first in the world certified for passenger transportation.

Deployed at the new Spanish UAM Center, the EH216-S will play a pivotal role in generating valuable operational experience, ensuring its seamless integration into European airspace.

Vertiport Operations

Key to this innovation is the inclusion of a vertiport at the UAM Center. This specialized area caters to the takeoff and landing of air taxis, adhering to the stringent design criteria set by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The vertiport’s design is geared towards fostering a perfect harmony between eVTOLs and traditional airport infrastructures.

This integration is critical to expanding our knowledge in the field and facilitating the use of air taxis in various locations.

A Vision of Urban Air Mobility in Europe

Huazhi Hu, the founder, chairman, and CEO of EHang, expressed his enthusiasm during the center’s inauguration event.

He emphasized the international significance of this milestone, declaring, “The creation of EHang’s European urban air mobility center marks an important step forward in the company’s international development.”

He underlined EHang’s unwavering dedication to advancing UAM in Europe, sharing its certified technology and extensive operational experience with global partners.

The goal is clear: to make safe, autonomous, and eco-friendly urban air mobility a reality, benefiting society at large.

Partnership with Government of Catalonia

EHang’s partnership with the Government of Catalonia is a source of immense pride. Marc Sanglas, Secretary for Mobility and Infrastructure of the Government of Catalonia, shared his appreciation for being chosen as the site for EHang’s European UAM base.

This partnership underscores the commitment of both parties to push the boundaries of technology and embrace the future of transportation.

Victoria Xiang, COO of EHang in Europe and Latin America, shared insights into the broader vision of the European UAM Center.

Initially conceived to support EHang’s involvement in pioneering projects, it is also positioned to extend its applications to innovative urban air mobility endeavors.

Moreover, the center will play a pivotal role in shaping certification and airworthiness requirements, fostering the development of urban air mobility in Europe.
