EHang EH216-S receives CAAC airworthiness certification

EHang Holdings Limited (Nasdaq: EH) has achieved a significant milestone in the realm of urban air mobility (UAM).

The Chinese company proudly announced that its EH216-S passenger-carrying unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system has secured the standard Airworthiness Certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

This certification positions the EH216-S as the world’s first certified pilotless passenger-carrying electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

EHang’s EH216-S, manufactured at the advanced Yunfu Production Base, strictly adheres to the Type Certificate issued by the CAAC in October 2023.

The certification validates that the aircraft complies with the approved type design and upholds safety and quality standards essential for commercial operations.

This accomplishment comes amid EHang’s commitment to maintaining excellence in manufacturing, quality assurance, and production management, to meet with regulatory requirements.

Recognition by the CAAC


The issuance of the Airworthiness Certificate now validates EHang’s operational processes. This recognition extends to EHang’s manufacturing capabilities, rigorous test flights, and robust production management.

The CAAC’s acknowledgment also positions EHang as a frontrunner in the development and implementation of innovative UAM technologies.

Delivery to ETON: A Strategic Move


The certified EH216-S has already found its first home with ETON, an intelligent aviation technology subsidiary of Guangzhou Development District Communications Investment Group Co., Ltd.

This strategic placement is under the management of the local government of Huangpu District in Guangzhou.

The delivery marks the commencement of a new era in the aviation industry, heralding the integration of pilotless passenger-carrying eVTOL aircraft into real-world applications.

Mr. Chengjiu Zhou, General Manager of Guangzhou Development District Communications Investment Group Co., Ltd., expressed enthusiasm at the EH216-S Airworthiness Certificate and aircraft delivery ceremony.

He highlighted the significance of this achievement for Guangzhou’s local enterprise and emphasized the optimism surrounding upcoming commercial operations in aerial tourism.

The collaboration between EHang and local entities sets the stage for a promising future in the low-altitude economy.

The commercial delivery of the EH216-S signals the initiation of fulfilling backlog orders, anticipating an influx of aircraft from the production line.
