Eve Air Mobility and Hunch Mobility, a joint venture between Hunch Ventures and Blade Air Mobility, Inc., have unveiled plans to introduce the first eVTOL electric commuter flights to Bangalore, India.

This strategic move positions Bangalore as the pioneering city in the region for embracing urban air mobility through electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

Bangalore and Urban Air Mobility

The announcement marks the initiation of a comprehensive plan, with both companies engaging with local, state, and federal authorities, as well as infrastructure, energy, and technology providers.

Their shared goal is to lay the groundwork for the seamless integration of eVTOL aircraft flights into Bangalore’s urban landscape.

Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve Air Mobility, expressed excitement about this venture, stating, “This launch city announcement is the next step in a great relationship that Hunch Mobility and Eve have built to co-create the urban air mobility ecosystem in India.”

The focus is on providing residents with an efficient and affordable mode of transportation, addressing the challenges of commuting in one of the world’s most densely populated cities.

Amit Dutta, director of Hunch Mobility, emphasized their commitment to contributing to India’s growth story by tackling road congestion, saying,

“This collaboration with Eve Air Mobility underscores the commitment to contribute to India’s growth story by addressing the bottleneck of road congestion in the country.”

The partnership aims to democratize short-haul air mobility by offering affordable ticket fares and zero carbon emissions.

The introduction of eVTOL flights is poised to revolutionize commuting in Bangalore, offering residents a quick and economical solution to navigate the city’s notorious traffic.

Bangalore: A Hub for Electric Aviation

Bangalore, with its staggering population exceeding 13 million, stands as one of the most densely populated cities globally.

The advent of electric aviation, particularly with eVTOL vehicles, is anticipated to make significant strides in reducing the carbon footprint, noise pollution, and the overall cost of flying.

This innovation aims to make air travel more accessible to the masses, aligning with the city’s need for sustainable and efficient transportation solutions.

The Eve eVTOL Aircraft

Eve’s eVTOL, a 100% electric aircraft with a range of 100 kilometers (60 miles), positions itself as the ideal solution to urban air mobility challenges in Bangalore.

Designed with a lift-plus-cruise configuration, the aircraft boasts dedicated rotors for vertical flight and fixed wings for cruising, eliminating the need for component adjustments during flight.

Initially piloted, the aircraft plans to evolve toward uncrewed operations in the future, marking a significant stride in autonomous air mobility.

Eve’s commitment to the Indian market was solidified with Hunch Mobility’s announcement to purchase 200 eVTOLs, along with services and the company’s Urban Air Traffic Management (ATM) solution.

As part of their collaboration, a three-month-long pilot project was initiated, featuring intra-city helicopter flights in Bangalore.

Pilot Projects

This pilot project aimed to gather essential data on operations and customer experiences. The insights gained will play a crucial role in shaping the further development of Eve’s eVTOL aircraft, its air traffic management solution, and comprehensive service and support solutions.

Beyond revolutionizing transportation, Eve and Hunch Mobility anticipate a positive economic impact on Bangalore.

The introduction of eVTOL flights is expected to create new employment opportunities, ranging from pilots and aircraft service technicians to training and technical services.

The development of necessary infrastructure is also poised to contribute value and additional employment opportunities to the community.
