Archer Aviation Inc., a prominent player in the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft industry, has announced its second-quarter operating and financial results, concluding on June 30, 2023.

Accompanying these results, Archer unveiled a series of pivotal developments that underscore its trajectory toward securing FAA certification and launching commercial operations by 2025.

FAA Greenlights Midnight eVTOL Aircraft

A notable highlight in Archer’s recent announcements is the receipt of the Special Airworthiness Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its new Midnight eVTOL aircraft.

This key certification signifies that the Midnight aircraft has successfully met and exceeded all safety requirements set by the FAA. As a result, Archer is now poised to initiate flight test operations, a phase anticipated to kick off in the imminent weeks.

The achievement of this certificate is a testament to Archer’s unwavering commitment to safety and innovation, bolstering the company’s strides toward achieving FAA certification for its eVTOL aircraft.

This milestone positions Archer favorably as it gears up for its piloted “for credit” testing of the Midnight eVTOL aircraft with the FAA in early 2024.

Covington, Georgia Production Facility

Archer’s ambitions extend beyond certification; the company envisions a future where eVTOL aircraft become a common sight in the skies.

In line with this vision, Archer has diligently been working towards establishing the world’s first high-volume eVTOL production facility.

Set to be situated in Covington, Georgia, this facility is slated to commence operations by mid-2024, running parallel to a similar facility in collaboration with Stellantis.

This strategic move not only positions Archer as an industry leader but also underlines the company’s commitment to scaling production to meet the anticipated demand for its innovative eVTOL aircraft.

Military Collaboration

Archer’s recent collaboration with the Department of Defense (DoD), valued at a staggering $142 million, has opened new avenues for the company.

Part of this collaboration involves the delivery of the Midnight eVTOL aircraft to the U.S. Air Force, expected to take place later this year or early the next.

This achievement would mark a historic moment, as it would signify the first-ever delivery of an eVTOL aircraft to a customer.

Strong Financial Backing

Archer’s journey is fortified by significant financial investments from prominent industry players. The company secured an impressive $215 million equity investment from renowned entities such as Stellantis, Boeing, United Airlines, and other notable financial institutions, including ARK Invest.

These investments have propelled Archer’s total funding to exceed $1.1 billion, an indication of the industry’s confidence in the company’s vision and potential.

In addition to its financial gains, Archer has also navigated important partnerships. The company’s collaboration with Boeing and Wisk in the realm of autonomous flight, along with the resolution of litigation between the parties, underscores Archer’s commitment to innovation and collaboration.

Archer Aviation CEO comments

Adam Goldstein, Archer’s Founder and CEO, has good reason to be pleased with the industry’s rapid progress and Archer’s pivotal role in shaping its future.

“The pace at which our industry is advancing is unprecedented. Our team’s hard work and dedication have brought us to this exciting moment, and we can’t wait to see Midnight soar,” Goldstein remarked.

With the FAA’s endorsement of the timeline for eVTOL aircraft operations in the U.S. by 2025, Archer’s achievements take center stage in shaping the future of urban air mobility.

The company’s pursuit of excellence, innovation, and collaboration sets it on a course to lead the charge in the commercialization of eVTOL aircraft, paving the way for a transformative era of transportation.
