A Virgin Atlantic flight operating from New York to Manchester has declared an emergency whilst inbound toward the United Kingdom.

Virgin Atlantic flight VS128, an Airbus A350 operating the transatlantic service from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Manchester (MAN) declared a general emergency, squawking 7700 as it approached the UK mainland from the west.

The flight is currently on descent into the northern England hub of Manchester.

The flight declared an emergency with transponder code 7700 whilst on descent through FL270 (27,000 feet) as it made its initial approach to the United Kingdom. The cause of the emergency declaration is not yet known.

Flight VS128 now passing through 1,500 feet and establishing on finals for RWY23 Manchester (MAN). With the worst of Storm Agnes now past and moving north of Scotland, weather for the flight’s arrival is Visual Meteorological Conditions (VFR) this morning, with visibility 10 kilometers or more and light wind.

The aircraft conducting this morning’s long haul service is an Airbus A350-1041, registered G-VEVE; a two-year old widebody belonging to the carrier Virgin Atlantic.
