Two flights in Geneva declared an emergency and diverted to Zurich earlier tonight.

One was an inbound easyJet flight from Nice and the other was an outbound SWISS flight heading up to Brussels.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

Flight number one was SWISS flight LX796 operating a flight between Geneva and Brussels Airport in Belgium.

LX796 departed Geneva at 1813 local time and proceeded northbound before declaring an emergency and heading east towards Zurich.

As per @FlightEmergency, it is understood that the cause of the emergency was due to a problem with the de-icing equipment on the Airbus A220-300.

The A220-300 in question was HB-JCN, a 5.5 year old airframe which was delivered to SWISS back in June 2018, as per data from Planespotters.net.

Flight #2: easyJet Flight U21326 from Nice Diverts to Zurich After Emergency Call…

Data provided by RadarBox.com.

Not long after the SWISS emergency, easyJet flight U21326 from Nice bound for Geneva declared an emergency after a failed landing attempt.

This resulted in a subsequent diversion to Zurich also.

@FlightEmergency notes that this emergency was caused due to the aircraft making a missed approach at Geneva due to strong cross winds and instead of a second attempt, diverted to Zurich, declaring a low fuel emergency.

This flight was operated by HB-JZR, a 14.2 year old Airbus A320 that started out life with easyJet UK in September 2009 before being handed over to the Swiss subsidiary in December of that year, as per data from Planespotters.net.

Some hectic times at Geneva tonight. This remains a developing story.
