Turkish Airlines flight Istanbul-Montreal declares emergency

A Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Montreal has declared an emergency en route and is currently diverting.

Turkish Airlines flight TK35, a Boeing 777 enroute from Istanbul (IST) to Montreal (YUL) declared an emergency with transponder code 7700 whilst transiting European airspace.

The flight is currently initiating a diversion.

The long haul flight declared a general emergency whilst in the cruise at FL310 (31,000 feet) in German airspace at 15:32 UTC.

The nature of the emergency prompting the unscheduled diversion is not yet known. Flight data shows that the flight made a departure out of Istanbul at 16:29 local time today, before setting course normally for the long haul transatlantic service to Montreal.

The aircraft operating this afternoon’s TK35 rotation to Montreal is a Boeing 777-300ER registered TC-JJT; a 9-year old widebody aircraft belonging to the Turkish national carrier Turkish Airlines.

Diversion to Prague (PRG)

Having declared a general emergency from the cruise, flight TK35 has descended to FL250 and is diverting to nearby Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG).

Maintaining cruising altitude FL250 in the Prague area, Turkish Airlines flight TK35 has now reverted to a normal transponder code. Intentions are unclear at this time.

Flight TK35 now left cruising level FL250 and on descent for an approach into Prague (PRG).

Aircraft is now passing through 10,000 feet and established on an initial approach into PRG.

Weather for the flight’s arrival is visual flight conditions (VFR) with visibility 10 kilometres or more; light wind and no cloud below 10,000 feet. Active runway is currently RWY24.
