It is understood that Turkish Airlines flight TK801 Istanbul-Bogota is diverting to Paris Orly due to the emergency.
Furthermore, it is unclear what the nature of the emergency is at this time.
About TC-LLN: The Aircraft Involved in the Turkish Airlines Emergency…
As per Planespotters, TC-LLN, the aircraft involved in the emergency is a 4.0 year old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that was delivered to the airline in September 2020.
Furthermore, of the 787-9 variant, TK has 23 of them in their fleet, with an average fleet age of 3.4 years.
Holding off the Coast of France…
It is understood that TK801 is holding off the coast of France and looks to be burning fuel.
Looks to be a CDG Diversion Instead of ORY…
As per the Turkish Airlines flight status page, it looks like the diversion field will now be Paris CDG instead of Orly.
Technical Issue Onboard The Aircraft…
It is understood the cause of the emergency onboard Turkish Airlines flight TK801 Istanbul-Bogota is due to a technical issue onboard.
Furthermore, it is unclear what the nature of this technical issue is at present.
Holds Exited…
TK801 has exited it’s hold and looks to be heading to Paris CDG now.
Emergency Squawk Changed…
TK801 has removed the 7700 squawk code from it’s transponder. Whatever the emergency, it is under control at this time.
Furthermore, we will continue to monitor the aircraft until it’s arrival into Paris CDG.
Very Low Ground Speed at 30,000 Feet…
ADS-B data shows Turkish Airlines flight TK801 Istanbul-Bogota at a Ground Speed of 223kts at 30,000 feet. This could indicate a potential engine failure, although unconfirmed at this time.
Initial Descent Made to FL280…
Turkish Airlines flight TK801 Istanbul-Bogota has made it’s first initial descent into Paris CDG to FL280.
Now at FL310…
Could be some inaccurate ADS-B readings coming through due to the nature of the technical issue. After supposedly descending to FL280, the aircraft is supposedly at FL310.
Tracking Away from Paris CDG…
TK801 seems to be tracking away from Paris CDG. It is unclear whether it’s just the case that the aircraft hasn’t turned for it’s actual descent into the French airport or whether it’s going to try and limp home to Istanbul.
Heading back to Istanbul…
Data from @RadarBoxCom confirms that Turkish Airlines TK801 bound for Bogota is heading back to Istanbul, which makes sense if the technical issue is severe enough to require a fix at base.
