In the last few moments, a Ryanair flight between Tenerife and Newcastle has declared an emergency following a series of go-arounds carried out by the crew.

EI-EVS is the Boeing 737-8AS involved in the emergency, with the aircraft departing from the Canary Islands at 1429 local time this afternoon.

The aircraft descended normally into Newcastle before commencing a go around and a series of holds around the airport at 5,000 feet.

At this stage, it is unclear what the cause of the emergency is, but the seriousness of the emergency must be present if it is doing holds around the area.

UPDATE #3 @ 1841 UK time – Ryanair flight FR417 from Tenerife is now on final into Newcastle Airport following several holds and an emergency transmission. As per @FlightEmergency, it is understood to be a flap issue with the aircraft.

UPDATE #4 @ 1844 UK time – TOUCHDOWN! The aircraft appears to be on the ground safely following its emergency broadcast a few moments ago!
