Report: DHL Cargo Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Milan

Last week, a DHL Airbus A300 cargo plane made an emergency landing into Milan, it’s departure airport, following an issue onboard.

More information has been released pertinent to the incident at hand that was covered earlier on AviationSource.

Here is what we know so far…

QY7022 – Milan to Napoli…

DHL flight QY7022, which was involved in the emergency landing, is a routine scheduled flight between Milan and Napoli.

The aircraft involved in the emergency landing was D-AEAK.

As per data from Planespotters.net, D-AEAK is a 31.5 year old Airbus A300-600 cargo plane that started out life with Japan Air System in January 1993.

By April 2004, the aircraft was handed over to Japan Airlines Domestic.

Furthermore, two years after, it was transferred to the mainline Japan Airlines.

By September 2011, the aircraft was handed over to GA Telesis, before being sent to EAT Leipzig, AKA DHL Aviation in July 2012.

Of the A300-600F cargo plane variant, which was involved in the emergency landing, DHL has 36 of them in the fleet.

Furthermore, within that 36, 31 are in active service and the rest are parked, featuring an average age of 27.1 years.

QY7022 departed Milan at 0755 local time on April 5 and initially climbed out towards Napoli.

Over the Emilia Romagna area, the aircraft made a u-turn and subsequent emergency broadcast.

Furthermore, from there, a rapid descent was made by the aircraft.

The DHL Airbus A300-600 cargo plane made an emergency landing safely back into MXP at 0841 local time.

As per The Aviation Herald, it was reported that the aircraft suffered a loss of cabin pressure.

Aircraft Back in Service The Next Day…

Data from RadarBox highlights that D-AEAK was taken out of service in MXP for the rest of the day.

The DHL Airbus A300-600 cargo plane involved in the emergency landing at Milan returned to service the next day.

Furthermore, the aircraft has not had any further incidents since the loss of cabin pressure.

It has operated flights to the following destinations since:

  • Leipzig
  • Brussels
  • London Luton
  • London Heathrow
  • Napoli

All eyes will be on whether the issue will happen with the aircraft again in the short-term.
