Lufthansa A380 Munich to Los Angeles declares emergency

A Lufthansa flight operating from Munich to Los Angeles has declared an emergency on the last few moments, and is currently making a return to Munich.

Lufthansa flight LH452, an Airbus A380 operating the transatlantic service from Munich (MUC) to Los Angeles (LAX) declared a general emergency whilst transiting French airspace outbound.

The flight is currently initiating a return to Munich.

Lufthansa A380 Munich to Los Angeles declares emergency

UPDATE #1 @ 1310 UK time – The flight declared a general emergency with transponder code 7700 as it passed through French airspace in preparation for the overwater transatlantic flight segment.

UPDATE #2 @ 1315 UK time – The nature of the emergency prompting the unscheduled return is not yet clear.

UPDATE #3 @ 1318 UK time – Data from @RadarBoxCom shows that LH452 will be diverting to Paris CDG. It is unclear still what the nature of the emergency is.

UPDATE #4 @ 1320 UK time – LH452 continues it’s descent through FL200 as the emergency diversion continues.

UPDATE #5 @ 1321 UK time – As per data from Planespotters, D-AIML, the aircraft involved in this emergency, is a 10.2 year old Airbus A380 that was delivered to the German carrier back in May 2014.

Of the A380 variant, the carrier has eight of them, of which four are parked and four are in active service, offering an average fleet age of 11.8 years.

UPDATE #6 @ 1325 UK time – Lufthansa flight LH452, originally bound for Los Angeles from Munich, continues it’s descent into Paris CDG and is currently tracking near north to the French capital.

UPDATE #7 @ 1331 UK time – LH452 is now on the base leg into Paris CDG for it’s emergency landing.

UPDATE #8 @ 1333 UK time – LH452 is now on final into Paris CDG following the emergency broadcast around 20 minutes ago.

UPDATE #9 @ 1339 UK time – TOUCHDOWN! Lufthansa flight LH452, originally bound for Los Angeles from Munich, has appeared to have touched down safely into Paris CDG following it’s emergency broadcast. We will update when we have the reason.

UPDATE #10 @ 1352 UK time – @airlivenet reporting that the reason for the diversion into Paris CDG by LH452 is due to a very serious medical emergency onboard.
