A Lufthansa scheduled flight from Boston to Munich has declared a general emergency in the last few moments as it passes Frankfurt en route to its destination.

Lufthansa flight LH425, an Airbus A340-600 registered D-AIHV was in the scheduled flight from Boston (BOS) to Munich (MUC).

The flight has declared a general emergency, squawking 7700 as it passes Frankfurt, and now appears to be initiating a diversion to Frankfurt (FRA).

UPDATE #1 @ 1344 UK time – Sources confirm that the cause of the emergency on descent into Frankfurt was because of a medical emergency.

As we know, the flight was supposed to head to Munich from Boston, so it is unclear what will happen for passengers bound for Munich.

All eyes will be on D-AIHV to see when it will depart Frankfurt and position over to Munich again, or whether there will be an operational shift made as a result.

This will no doubt cause some delays to passengers at Munich who were due to fly on D-AIHV
