In the last few moments, a KLM flight bound for Ålesund has declared an emergency and has returned to Amsterdam Schiphol.

Information is limited regarding this incident, but below is what we know so far about this.

KLM Flight KL1159 – Amsterdam to Ålesund

KLM flight KL1159 is a routine scheduled flight between Amsterdam and Ålesund.

The aircraft involved in the emergency is PH-EXS.

As per data from Planespotters.net, PH-EXS is a 6.5 year old Embraer E175 that was delivered to the Cityhopper subsidiary in December 2017.

Of the E175 variant, KLM Cityhopper has 17 in the fleet.

Furthermore, of that 17, all but two are in active service, with an average fleet age of 7.0 years.

KL1159 departed from Amsterdam at 2105 local time tonight and initially climbed out to Ålesund.

Over the North Sea, the aircraft proceeded to make a u-turn as well as the 7700 emergency declaration.

After a priority and rapid descent back to home base, the aircraft landed safely without incident at 2152 local time.

At this stage, it is unclear what the cause of the emergency is onboard KLM flight KL1159 Amsterdam-Ålesund.
