Kalitta Air 747 bound for Anchorage declares emergency

A Kalitta Air Boeing 747 freighter operating from Seoul, South Korea to Anchorage declared an emergency on its approach to Ted Stevens International Airport, Anchorage.

It is understood that the aircraft encountered hydraulic problems, resulting in the declaration of an emergency with squawk code 7700 prior to landing.

Kalitta Air flight CKS703, a Boeing 747-400F freighter operating a cargo run from Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) to Anchorage Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC) had departed Seoul at 00:11 AM local time (15:11 UTC) this morning, September 29.

The flight then proceeded normally for the easterly crossing to Alaska; climbing to a cruising level of FL350 (35,000 feet).

The oceanic crossing appeared to be uneventful and the flight commenced its descent from the cruise at 22:00 UTC in preparation for its arrival into Anchorage.

In the latter stages of the approach to ANC, flight data shows the aircraft executing holding manoeuvers before it declared a general emergency with transponder code 7700 at approximately 22:35 UTC.

The 747 freighter subsequently made its approach to ANC, landing at 15:35 AKDT (local time).

The aircraft operating the cargo service was Boeing 747-4R7F freighter, registration N700CK; a 26-year old freighter conversion belonging to the carrier Kalitta Air.
