Icelandair 757 Keflavik-Rome Declares Emergency

UPDATE #1 @ 1125 UK time – Icelandair flight FI562 from Keflavik appears to be continuing on to Rome at FL390 at this current stage.

UPDATE #2 @ 1126 UK time – As per data from Planespotters.net, TF-ISJ, the aircraft operating this flight is a 24.5 year old Boeing 757-200 that first started out life with Iberia in August 1999.

By November 2004, the aircraft was handed over to Varig, before being returned to lessor ILFC in August 2006.

By December of that same year, the jet was handed over to Russian carrier KrasAir and remained there until March 2009 where it went back to lessor again.

By October of that year, it was sent over to Russia again with Russian carrier I-Fly, before being delivered to Icelandair in December 2015.

UPDATE #3 @ 1129 UK time – Icelandair flight FI562 has begun a descent from FL390, with it being unclear whether the Keflavik-originated flight is continuing on to Rome or is diverting elsewhere.

UPDATE #4 @ 1131 UK time – At this stage, it is unclear what the nature of the emergency is at this present time.

UPDATE #5 @ 1136 UK time – FI562 has stopped it’s descent at FL350 currently, so no full descent has taken place as of yet.

UPDATE #6 @ 1139 UK time – RadarBox data is indicating that Icelandair flight FI562 will be continuing on to Rome from Keflavik as planned, with no diversion field listed. Less than an hour to go until landing.

UPDATE #7 @ 1146 UK time – FI562 has stopped squawking 7700 and is now squawking 2724. Will monitor the aircraft until arrival.

UPDATE #8 @ 1224 UK time – FI562 has touched down safely into Rome following it’s emergency broadcast over French airspace, before returning to a normal squawk.
