Iberia flight IB3493 is a routine scheduled flight between Geneva and Madrid.

The aircraft involved in the emergency diversion to Zaragoza was operated by EC-LVD.

As per data from Planespotters.net, EC-LVD is a 11.0 year old Airbus A320 aircraft that was delivered to the airline in April 2013.

Of the A320ceo variant, Iberia has 11 of them in the fleet, of which 10 are in active service and one is currently parked.

Average fleet age of the variant with the airline is 16.4 years.

IB3493 departed Geneva at 1909 local time tonight and proceeded initially to Madrid.

However, over the Toulouse area, the aircraft declared an emergency and initially continued on to MAD.

Furthermore, with Zaragoza being closer, the decision was made by the crew on the Iberia flight to divert there instead.

IB3493 appeared to land safely into the Spanish airport at 2027 local time.

At the moment, the next stages are unclear for IB3493 between Geneva and Madrid that diverted to Zaragoza.

Depending on the severity of the emergency, the flight may be cancelled if it is something technical-related.

If it is a medical emergency, then the affected persons will be offloaded, and the aircraft will continue on to MAD.

As soon as the cause is determined, then planning the next steps for passengers will then be ascertained and implemented.

As soon as we have information pertinent to the cause of the emergency, then we will update this article accordingly.

For now, this remains a developing story. More to follow in due course.
