An Iberia flight operating from Madrid to Chicago has declared an emergency shortly after departure. The flight is now negotiating a return to madrid.
Iberia flight IB6275, an Airbus A330-300 out of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas ( (MAD) for Chicago (ORD) declared a general emergency with squawk code 7700 whilst on climb through FL240, and is currently making a return to the departure airport.

Flight IB6275 was still on climb and establishing on track for the transatlantic service when it declared the general emergency as it passed into Portugal airspace.
The nature of the emergency prompting the precautionary return is not yet known.
Update 11:35 UTC – Return to MAD
Flight IB6275 now established on a direct track to return to MAD and on descent. Data shows the flight made the emergency squawk at 11:19 UTC; terminating the climb and executing a turnaround and descent for a return.
The flight continued to squawk transponder code 7700, before reverting to a normal squawk at 11:28 UTC.
Weather for the flight’s return is currently visual conditions (VFR) with light wind and visibility 10 kilometres or more.
The flight originally departed MAD at 11:53 local time this morning, before making the turnaround shortly thereafter.
The aircraft conducting today’s transatlantic rotation is Airbus A330-300 registered EC-LUX; a 10-year old widebody aircraft belonging to the carrier Iberia.
