In the last few moments, a Flydubai flight from Dhaka being operated by a Smartwings Boeing 737-800 has declared an emergency whilst on the final approach into Dubai International Airport.

Flydubai flight FZ524 is a routine scheduled flight between Dhaka and Dubai, with the affected rotation being operated by OK-TSE.

As per data from Planespotters.net, OK-TSE is a 9.9 year old Boeing 737-800 that belongs to Smartwings, a carrier that is providing the aircraft on lease to the UAE-based carrier.

This aircraft has been on lease with the likes of Air Transat and Sunwing, and is frequently used by airlines who need to fill additional capacity.

Of the 737-800 variant, Smartwings has 23 of them in the fleet, of which 21 are in service, and two are parked, offering an average fleet age of 15 years.

Flydubai flight FZ524 departed Dhaka at 2206 local time earlier tonight and proceeded westbound in the direction of Dubai.

The descent phase was normal for the flight, but upon entering the base leg phase, which is the final phase before final approach, the flight declared a general emergency via the 7700 squawk code.

FZ524 landed into Dubai at 0149 local time, just a few minutes ago at the time of writing, with there being no indication at this stage into the reason for this emergency.
