LONDON – An Envoy Air Embraer E170 declared emergency moments before it was due to arrive in Reno. It is now heading elsewhere. It has diverted to Sacramento.

As you can see above, AA4227 was not far away from Reno when it aborted its approach, and climbed to 18,000 feet.

UPDATE #2 @ 2039 UK time – N244NN is the Embraer E170 operated by Envoy Air that is involved in the emergency. The aircraft is six years old.

UPDATE #3 @ 2042 UK time – The E170 is approaching 10,000 feet, as Sacramento Airport becomes the confirmed diversion point for this aircraft. Unclear why it didn’t continue on its approach to Reno.

UPDATE #10 @ 2101 UK time – Sources indicate that the cause of the emergency was a “flaps issue”, with Sacramento Regional Fire/EMS on site as a precaution.

UPDATE #11 @ 2106 UK time – This was the exact moment that AA4227 cancelled its descent profile into Reno, and opted for a diversion to Sacramento, with the aircraft having to fly past Reno as a result.
