UPDATE #1 @ 1732 UK time – easyJet flight U2868 bound for London Gatwick initially, is continuing it’s descent back into Glasgow Airport.

UPDATE #2 @ 1733 UK time – G-EJCC, the aircraft operating this flight is a 9.9 year old Airbus A320 that started out life initially with Japanese carrier Peach back in March 2014.

The jet was delivered to easyJet Europe in December 2022, before being handed over to the UK subsidiary by April 2023, as per data from Planespotters.net.

Of the A320-200ceo variant, the UK subsidiary has 77 in the fleet, of which 70 are in active service and seven are currently parked, offering an average fleet age of 4.5 years.

UPDATE #3 @ 1736 UK time – easyJet flight U2868 is passing through FL80 and is currently tracking to the south-east of Glasgow Airport at this time. Unclear what the reason for the emergency is, but is serious enough to not continue onwards to London Gatwick.

UPDATE #4 @ 1738 UK time – Runway 23 is in use at GLA currently, which is what runway U2868 is currently setting up for it’s emergency landing.

UPDATE #5 @ 1742 UK time – U2868 is approaching the base leg portion of the emergency approach back into GLA.

UPDATE #6 @ 1747 UK time – easyJet flight U2868 is now on finals for Runway 23 at Glasgow Airport. Landing imminent.

UPDATE #7 @ 1751 UK time – TOUCHDOWN! U2868, originally bound for London Gatwick, has appeared to have safely touched down back into GLA after it’s emergency call a few moments ago. As soon as we get the reason for it, we will update you accordingly!

UPDATE #8 @ 1752 UK time – Received reports that the cause of the emergency was due to a bang followed by smoke in the cockpit, which was isolated onboard.
