Delta Flight New Orleans-Calgary Declares Emergency

A Delta Air Lines scheduled flight from New Orleans to Calgary diverted to Kansas City after declaring an emergency whilst en route on 2 April.

Delta Air Lines flight DL8841, a Boeing 757-200 declared the emergency with squawk code 7700 during the diversion into Kansas City.

Following a normal departure and cruise, flight DL8841 squawked code 7700 whilst passing through FL290 (29,000 feet). The aircraft was established in the descent for the diversion airport of Kansas City International Airport (MCI).

The nature of the emergency prompting the 7700 transmission and subsequent diversion is not yet known.

Flight details

Flight data shows that Delta flight DL8841 made a delayed departure out of New Orleans International Airport (MSY). The flight shows a departure time of 17:21 local time, against a scheduled time of 16:10 local.

The flight then set course normally for Calgary (YYC), climbing to FL400 (40,000 feet). It commenced a let down from FL400 at 23:47 UTC. At 23:52 UTC, while passing through FL290 during diversion to MCI, the crew declared an emergency.

The flight subsequently landed at MCI at 19:15 local time.

The aircraft conducting the regional service was a Boeing 757-200 registered N654DL. This is a 34.2 year old aircraft belonging to US carrier Delta Air Lines. It has been in service with the airline since delivery in February 1990.
