UPDATE #1 @ 1820 UK time – Delta Air Lines flight DL187 between London and Los Angeles has made a u-turn over Scotland and looks to be heading back to Heathrow. Cause of the emergency unclear currently.

UPDATE #2 @ 1822 UK time – At the time of writing, N414DZ is a 1.3-year-old airframe which was delivered new to Delta back in September 2022.

UPDATE #3 @ 1827 UK time – This is the second Los Angeles-based flight to declare an emergency over Scotland in two days, with yesterday’s being a Virgin Boeing 787.

UPDATE #4 @ 1829 UK time – Bit blustery over at London Heathrow, with the winds being 260@16 at the time of writing, which will favour the 27s for approach.

UPDATE #5 @ 1832 UK time – DL187 has stopped squawking 7700, and is now squawking 1250, meaning that whatever the issue is onboard, it is under control and the aircraft will continue into London Heathrow and not onwards to its destination.

UPDATE #6 @ 1838 UK time – DL187 has started its descent into Heathrow following its initial emergency broadcast and u-turn over Scotland earlier.

UPDATE #7 @ 1844 UK time – DL187 is darting through UK airspace very quickly to get back onto the ground, with the A330neo approaching the Birmingham area currently.

UPDATE #8 @ 1850 UK time – DL187 gets closer to the London area as the aircraft descends through FL200 and below as it prepares for its swift return back to Heathrow.

UPDATE #9 @ 1851 UK time – Reports coming in already that it is a medical emergency, courtesy of @EISNspotter on Twitter/X!

UPDATE #10 @ 1856 UK time – Descending through FL100 as the aircraft slowly approaches the downwind for the 27s at Heathrow!

UPDATE #11 @ 1900 UK time – DL187 is approaching the base leg for approach.

UPDATE #12 @ 1904 UK time – Delta Air Lines flight DL187, originally bound for Los Angeles is on final into London Heathrow after a 7700 emergency broadcast call over Scotland prompting a return.

UPDATE #13 @ 1910 UK time – TOUCHDOWN! DL187 has appeared to have touched down safely into Heathrow on Runway 27R. Although reports of a medical, we will confirm this and update accordingly when we have more information!
