An Air France Boeing 777-300ER operating as flight AF276 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) to Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT), turned back while passing through Georgian airspace and has now declared a general emergency. The flight is now returning to Paris.

Update #1 @ 18:20 Zulu

The aircraft is flying directly towards Paris CDG and is now beginning to descend towards the airport.

It is not yet clear as to what the nature of the emergency is, but the airframe F-GZNS is only 7 years old and had only 24 hours ago operated two scheduled flights with no reported problems.

Update #2 @ 18:35 Zulu

Air France Flight AF276 has now touched down in Paris CDG, and we await now to hear any official confirmation or statement from the airline as to the nature of the emergency, and why the flight crew elected to return to Paris when it was around half way into the flight.
