An American Airlines flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to Tampa has declared an emergency, squawking code 7700 en route.
American Airlines flight AA2321, a Boeing 737-800, declared an emergency in the last few moments and is return to Dallas.

Having declared the emergency from the cruise whilst still in Texas airspace, flight AA2321 is now on descent, and expediting a direct return to Dallas Forth-Worth.
The decision to return was made, but the cause of the emergency remains unknown.
With the flight now on descent through FL120, weather for the return is Marginal VFR with cloudbase 2,400 feet. Expected visibility is 6 miles.

Data shows that flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 whilst on climb through flight level FL340 (34,000 feet). Flight crew then positioned the aircraft on a return course and a descent was then initiated for a return.
Flight AA2321 is currently establishing for the return DFW and on descent through 10,000 feet. RWYs 17/18 are currently active for the flight’s arrival.

Having declared an emergency with squawk code 7700 whilst outbound for Tampa, FL, flight AA2321 has now returned and landed Dallas Fort-Worth (DFW).
The aircraft conducting today’s AA2321 rotation to Tampa International Airport (TPA) was a Boeing 737-800, registered N932NN.
This is a 10.0 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the US carrier American Airlines. It has been in service with the airline since its initial delivery in July 2013.

As per @FlightEmergency on X, it is understood the cause of today’s emergency is due to a fuel leak onboard the aircraft.
