This is a developing story. Updates below.

UPDATE #1 @ 2328 UK time – It is understood that American Airlines flight AA575, originally bound for Miami, is diverting to Washington Dulles following this emergency broadcast.

UPDATE #2 @ 2329 UK time – As per Planespotters, N840NN, the aircraft operating this flight, is a 13.4 year old Boeing 737-800 that started out life with the airline back in June 2010.

UPDATE #3 @ 2332 UK time – Unclear what altitude the aircraft is at as the ADS-B receivers are not registering it, but we know the aircraft is currently at 240kts ground speed.

UPDATE #4 @ 2334 UK time – Unclear at this time whether this is an ADS-B glitch. RadarBox, FlightRadar & ADS-B exchange have the aircraft at 0 feet, cruising at 190kts ground speed, and squawking 7700.

UPDATE #5 @ 2336 UK time – Emergency confirmed, but unclear as to why ADS-B is not tracking the altitude.

UPDATE #6 @ 2339 UK time – AA575 looks to be setting up for an approach into Washington Dulles. It could very well be a medical, with the flight expecting to depart again in under an hour’s time back to Miami.

UPDATE #7 @ 2348 UK time – TOUCHDOWN! American Airlines flight AA575 has appeared to have touched down safely into Dulles following it’s emergency call. Awaiting confirmation of the cause of the emergency and will update in due time.

UPDATE #8 @ 2348 UK time – Initial reports indicating that it is instrument issues onboard the aircraft, which could potentially explain the reason for ADS-B not tracking altitude? Unclear at this point.

UPDATE #9 @ 2350 UK time – Runway vacated safely.

UPDATE #10 @ 22/10/23 @ 1339 UK time – As per The Aviation Herald, the cause of the emergency two days ago was caused by unreliable airspeed, which forced the diversion into Dulles.
