American Airlines flight Philadelphia-Seattle declares emergency

An American Airlines flight out of Philadelphia for Seattle has declared an emergency whilst inbound to the destination.

American Airlines flight AA2001, an Airbus A321 operating from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) declared an emergency with squawk code 7700 as it approached Washington state.

Flight AA2001 declared the emergency whilst in the cruise at FL340 (34,000 feet) and is continuing to the destination squawking transponder code 7700.

Flight data shows the aircraft made an on-time departure out of Philadelphia at 19:27 EST, before establishing on the westerly route for SEA; climbing to a cruising altitude of FL340.

The flight subsequently declared a general emergency from the cruise whilst approaching the Washington state border.

Flight AA2001 now on descent out of FL340 as it makes its approach into Seattle. The aircraft operating this evening’s rotation is Airbus A321-253NX registered N468AN; a 10-month old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier American Airlines.

Destination weather for the flight’s arrival is Visual Meteorological Conditions (VFR), with light winds and visibility 10 kilometers or more. The flight has maintained the squawk code 7700 as it negotiates the initial descent into SEA.
