American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Austin

Earlier this week, an American Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Austin due to a failure with the aircraft’s flaps.

More information has been released pertinent to this incident, so here is what we know so far.

American Airlines flight AA217, which was involved in the emergency landing, is a routine scheduled flight between Charlotte and Austin.

The aircraft involved in this incident is N821NN.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N821NN is a 14.3 year old Boeing 737-800 that was delivered to the airline in January 2010.

Of the 737-800 variant, American Airlines has 303 of them in the fleet, of which all but 10 are in active service.

Furthermore, average fleet age of the aircraft type at the airline stands at 14.4 years.

American Airlines flight AA217, which was involved in the emergency landing, departed Charlotte at 1808 local time and proceeded to Austin.

As per The Aviation Herald, the crew experienced problems with their flaps during approach.

Following the issue being detected, the crew entered a series of holds before declaring an emergency.

A flapless landing was made by the aircraft without further incident, landing at 2028 local time.

Returned to Service The Next Day…

Furthermore, data from RadarBox shows that N821NN was grounded overnight.

Following it’s emergency landing on the American Airlines AA217 Charlotte-Austin rotation, the aircraft re-entered service on April 11.

Since then, the aircraft has been performing operationally well, following the relevant repairs being made.

It has operated flights to Chicago & Montego Bay since.

All eyes will be on whether anymore issues arise with the aircraft.
